Mr. Arthur Elliot Kier, age 88, of Blackshear, died Saturday morning (6/17/17) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following an extended illness.

Born March 11, 1929 in Johnstown, PA, he was a son of the late Elliot Kier and Virginia Elizabeth Harris McGee.  He was a resident of Blackshear for the last 50 years and was retired as the City Public Works Superintendent, a job he took great pride in from May 1984 thru June 1994.  He was a veteran, having served in the US Army during World War II and attended Grace Episcopal Church in Waycross.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Lee Yawn Dixon Kier.

Survivors include his son, Arthur “Skipper” Kier (wife Janice) of Palatka, FL; a step son, Virgil Dixon (wife Harriet) of Waverly; a special friend, Rev. Kit Brinson of Waycross; and several other relatives.

A graveside funeral service will take place on Friday (6/23/17) at 11 AM at the Blackshear City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the cemetery one hour prior to the service.

My deepest sympathies to the family and friends. Death at any age is difficult. May you find comfort in the words found at Hosea 13:14 which says "From the power of the Grave I will redeem them; From death I will recover them."

What a fine gentlemen Mr. Kier was. I had the great pleasure of spending time with him as we rode to the mall for the annual Spring shopping trip. He was one of my favorite residents. He will be missed by us all. Prayers for the family!
