Mr. James Dwight DeLoach, age 68, of Blackshear, passed away Friday evening (2/1/19) surrounded by his family at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born July 30, 1950 in Waycross, GA, he was raised in Patterson and was a 1968 graduate of Patterson High School.  He lived for several years in Brunswick but for most of his life, he lived and worked in Pierce County.  He had managed hotels and restaurants but retired from the City of Patterson as the Public Works Superintendent. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working at the Barnard Company.

He was a longtime member of Patterson Baptist Church where he taught the Friendship Sunday School Class and was faithful in assisting with small repairs and duties around the church. He was also a longtime volunteer with the Patterson Fire Department.

He had also been a member of the Jaycees in the 1970’s to early 80’s, the Gardi Hunting Club, and the Pierce County Bear Boosters. He was a faithful supporter of all sports in Pierce County and also enjoyed watching the Georgia Bulldogs.

Preceding him in death were his father, Dorris Edward DeLoach, Sr.; a brother, Dr. Randy DeLoach; and his step-father, Claude Clough.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Bowen DeLoach of Blackshear; 3 daughters, Sandy DeLoach Smith (husband Brian) of Vidalia, GA, Joy DeLoach Serafin (husband Brandon) of Anchorage, AK, and DeeDee DeLoach Crawford (husband Keith) of Butte, AK; 2 step-sons, Michael Anthony Carrin (Dixie) and Evan Jackson Carrin (wife Amber), both of Blackshear; 15 grandchildren, D. Austin Smith (wife Samantha) of Las Vegas, NV, Carson M. Smith of Vidalia, Jessica L. Hipchen of Atlanta, C. Hayden Barber of Brunswick, Isobel L. Barber of Anaconda, MT, Jordan Serafin of California, Jacob Serafin of Wasilla, AK, Kyle Close (wife Diamond) of Waycross, J. Alan Crawford of Butte, AK, Alyssa B. Crawford of Patterson, and Coy Carrin, Pierce Carrin, Logan Carrin, Suzanna Carrin, and Libby Carrin, all of Blackshear; 1 great grandson, Zeke Close of Waycross; his mother, Thedius Barnard Clough of Blackshear; 3 brothers, Edward DeLoach of Patterson, Travis DeLoach (wife Elaine) of Vidalia, and David DeLoach (wife Terri) of Blackshear; 2 step-sisters, Ruth Callahan and Janet Taylor (husband Billy), both of Blackshear; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will take place on Monday morning (2/4/19) at 11 a.m. at Patterson Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening (2/3/19) from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family request that his classmates with the Patterson High School Class of 1968 serve as honorary pallbearers. Please be at the church on Monday by 10:40 a.m.
