Mrs. Brenda Gail Sweat Rowell, age 68, of Pierce County, passed away Monday night (12/24/18) at her residence following an extended illness.

Born March 13, 1950 in Alma, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Tracy James and Modene Tuten Sweat. She graduated from Blackshear High School in 1968 and received an associate’s degree from Brewton Parker College where she sang in the Brewton Parker College Choir. Music was a passion of hers which she used in so many ways to inspire others.

She retired in 2004 from the Ware County Department of Family and Children Services following 34 years of service.

She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church where she served as church organist for many years. She was a member of the Women of Faith Sunday School class and part of the Women’s Missionary Union. She was passionate about her Lord and church family.

She was an active member on the board of Easter Seals, treasurer of Satilla Community Service Center Parents Association, and part of the Miracle League Association that works with handicapped children.

She will be remembered by her family and friends for her quiet, sweet, loving spirit and her servitude to others. She was dedicated to her God and her family. Love had no boundaries in her eyes and she accepted everyone with an open heart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Glenna Sweat Hardrick; two brothers, James Kelly Sweat and Larry Randolph Sweat; a brother-in-law, Lonnie A. Hardrick; and a great nephew, Peyton Joshua Sweat.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Jerry Edwin Rowell of Alma; two sons, Jeremiah James Rowell (wife Georgia Mosley Rowell) of Jesup and Richard William “Richie” Rowell of Alma; three grandchildren, Lauren Whitley Rowell, Jeremiah James Rowell, Jr., and Lucas Mason Rowell, all of Jesup; her twin sister, Linda Sweat Hardrick of Blackshear; two sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Boatright Sweat and Eleanor Cox Sweat, both of Alma; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and a host of friends.

A funeral service will be held Friday (12/28/18) at 11 a.m. at Beulah Baptist Church, 3343 Beulah Church, Road, Alma, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Beulah Baptist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Easter Seals, 505 Elizabeth Street, Waycross, Georgia 31501; St Jude’s Children’s Hospital,  501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to any charitable organization of your choice.

Dear Family, I send you my heartfelt condolence on the loss of your dear family member. May John 5:28,29 truly strengthen you to reflect on God’s promises to bring back to life your dear loved one to a beautified earth where she can be reunited with her family, and never have to get sick and die, ever again. (Psalm 37:11,29; Isaiah 33:24)

I had the awesome gift of growing up right next to the twins, Linda and Brenda. Even as children they had that sweet sweet spirit of God that I am sure their Godly mother instilled in them but came so naturally all of their life. It is hard to say anything about one without referring to both. I loved singing harmony with them, laughing until the church pews shook when we were kids, riding the bus back and forth to school, going to all those basketball games with our Moms the year the Blackshear Tigers went to state champion, meeting halfway our houses at pecan tree and playing for hours on that sweet country road where the stream of water in ditch looked like sweet tea, attending Beulah Baptist every time the doors were open and hearing our sweet Mamas sing praises to our Savior. Until we meet again Brenda. I love you with all my heart.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family during this time of loss. Brenda was one of the most genuine, gracious and generous people that I've ever met. She was such an encouragement to me during my time at Beulah, and I will never forget her smile and positive outlook, no matter how she was really feeling. I am richer for having known her over the past six months.

May the peace and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ fill the heart of every family member.
