Mr. William Russell O’Quinn, age 76, of Blackshear, passed away early Thursday morning (3/21/19) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following an extended illness.

Born November 19, 1942 in Pierce County, he was the oldest child of the late Lloyd Russell O’Quinn and Dollie Swindel O’Quinn Morgan.  He was a lifelong resident of Pierce County and was a 1960 graduate of Blackshear High School.  Following high school, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He returned to Blackshear, where he worked as the manager of Ware Milling Company, retiring in  2006 following 25 years of employment.

He was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Blackshear where he attended the Ron Spell Sunday School Class. He had taught Sunday school for many years and had served as an usher for 55 years.

He will be remembered as a man who loved life and always enjoyed a good laugh and telling jokes.  He never met a stranger and was always a kind, compassionate guy who loved his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bobbie O’Quinn of Blackshear; his daughter and son-in-law, April and Chad Hendley of Blackshear; his grandson, Collin Russell Hendley of Blackshear; 2 sisters, Elaine Moody (husband Stanley) and Donna Tanner (husband Frank), both of Blackshear; his brother, Wayne O’Quinn of Blackshear; longtime family friend, Sis Young of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A memorial service will take place Sunday afternoon (3/24/19) at 2 PM at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Stone and Rev. Richard Golden officiating.

I worked under Russell for 4 years and enjoyed every minute. No matter what the situation he always made me smile. I have considered him as my second father he will always be greatly missed but never forgotten. To his family I pray that the Lord will give you comfort and peace at this time and always till we see Russell again.
