Alice Jeffers Obituary

Mrs. Alice Lurline Broome Jeffers, age 65, of Waycross, passed away Sunday evening (6/23/24) at her residence following an extended illness.

Born November 5, 1958, in Blackshear, she was a daughter of the late Dean Carl Broome, Sr. and Janie Kate Hice Broome. She lived most of her life in Blackshear and Waycross and was a 1976 graduate of Blackshear High School.   She had obtained a bachelor’s degree in public administration and a Med Tech certification and retired as the manager of the Waycross Public Health Lab, following 25 years of service.

In her younger years, she had worked with her parents at The Blackshear Times until her father sold it in 1970 and at Broome Printing, selling supplies or whatever her parents needed assistance with.

She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Blackshear, where she attended the Farr’s Fellowship and Seeking Sisters Sunday School Classes. She sang with the Worship Choir, had sung with the ladies’ ensembles One Voice and New Creation, had helped lead the Children’s Choir and served on the Music Committee, and a member of the WMU.

A lady of many talents, she was a gifted musician and singer, played the piano, violin, and cello, and had taught violin and piano through the years.  She also enjoyed playing golf and had been a member of Lakeview Golf Club.  She enjoyed sharing any knowledge or lessons she felt would help someone at any point during their life, being an encouragement to all she encountered and showing love and compassion to all around her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Sandra Jeffers Hooks.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Keith Jeffers of Waycross; brother, Dean Carl Broome, Jr. of Blackshear; sister, Amelia Janet Silverman (husband John) of Cambridge, Massachusetts; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rev. Richard Jeffers, Sr. (wife Karen) of Waycross, Jonathan Jeffers (wife Kathy) of Blackshear, and Rodney Hooks of Waycross; nieces and nephews, Michael Jeffers of Blackshear, Stephanie Ebersole (husband Phillip) of Blackshear, Fran Carter of Waycross, Richard Jeffers, Jr. (wife Danielle) of Waycross, and Marissa Hooks of Waycross; and several great nieces and nephews; cousins, and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will take place Thursday morning (6/27/24) at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Blackshear with Rev. Richard Jeffers, Dr. Bill Young, and Dr. Justin Gambrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackshear City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday morning one hour prior to the service.

The family request that the members of the First Baptist Church Worship Choir, Farr's Fellowship Sunday School Class, and Seeking Sisters Sunday School Class serve as honorary pallbearers. Please be at the church by 10:40 a.m.
