Mr. Barney Mack Crawford, age 91, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday evening (5/7/2024) at Twin Oaks Convalescent Center in Alma, Georgia following an extended illness.
Born August 18, 1932, in Patterson, he was a son of Sargent Gary and Susie Bertha Walker Crawford. He grew up in Pierce County and was a 1951 graduate of Blackshear High School. He joined the United States Air Force and served for over 20 years, retiring in 1974 at a Tech Sergeant. He returned home to Pierce County and worked several jobs through the years including at the ports in Savannah, the United States Post Office, Bennett’s Package Store, and at Okefenokee and Lakeview Golf Courses.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Blackshear. He also enjoyed fishing in the river and loved to eat boiled peanuts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sons-in-law, Alfred Allen and Charles Dubose; 1 granddaughter, Misty Davis; 3 sisters, Eva Mae Crawford Walker, Lottie Bell Crawford Thorn, and Mariam Crawford Carter; and 6 brothers, Sargent Lloyd Crawford, James Nolan Crawford, Gary Donald Crawford, Joe Thomas Crawford, Willis Delmus Crawford, and Nesbert Lee Crawford.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Wendy Crawford of Blackshear; 3 children, Teresa Allen of Alma, Kevin Crawford (wife Doris) of Blackshear, and Cheryl Dubose of Blackshear; 9 grandchildren, Bill (Missy) Sharpe, Kristy (Marc) Simmons, Shaun (Suzanne) Allen, Tiffaney Dryden, Ashley Reanne (Craig) Brown, Taryn (Al) Kue, Trey Spires, Jesse Mucklow, and Jeremy Mucklow; 11 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will take place Friday morning (5/10/2024) at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday one hour prior to the service.
