Mr. Bobby Bennett, age 80, of Blackshear passed away Monday afternoon (8/3/26) at his residence following an extended illness.
Born July 29, 1946, in Waycross, he was a son of the late Carrol and Minnie Browning Bennett. Living most of his life in Pierce County, he worked in carpentry, was the owner/operator of Hardtimes Transport Company, and worked many years in law enforcement in Ware County and Pierce County and retired late last year as a bailiff for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
He was an active member of New Life Assembly of God and was active with the Bennett Bay Hunting Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jonathan Bennett; his sister, Jean Young; 2 brothers, Carroll “Pee Wee” Bennett and Donnie Bennett; and his father-in-law, Charles Studstill.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lydia Bennett of Blackshear; son, Bobby Bennett (wife Melissa) of Tifton; daughter, Tenesa Lightsey (husband Charlie) of Patterson; 6 grandchildren, Eddie Bennett (wife Jaclyn), Julie Cooper (husband Lawrence), Karsyn Bennett, Charlie Hugh Lightsey, Michaela Lightsey, and Austin Stokes; 6 great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Deloris Turner of Baxley; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles Studstill (wife Pam) of Blackshear, Gene Studstill (wife Janet) of Waycross, Melissa Hickson (husband Jeffrey) of Waycross, Candi Franklin of Milledgeville, and Charlene Wilson of Waresboro; special friend, Pamela Clark of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place Sunday evening (8/9/26) at 5 p.m. at New Life Assembly of God, 2191 Golf Course Road, Blackshear, GA 31516.
Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends and loved ones for a time of fellowship. A meal will be provided for the family.
