Carl Mitchell Buchanan

Mr. Carl Mitchell Buchanan, age 74, of Blackshear, passed away Friday evening (4/8/22) at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House following an extended illness.

Born June 8, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was a son of the late Carl Milton and Mary Len McMichael Buchanan. He grew up in Ohio and lived in Florida and in Waycross before moving to Pierce County in 1980. He had worked as a manager for Eli Witt Cigar Company but then worked and retired as a salesman from Stewart Candy Company.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Waycross. He was also a former member of the YMCA, Boy Scouts of America, Altamaha Hunting Club, and participated in anything his children were involved in including the band, sports, and other activities. His greatest joys in life were his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Carl Milton “Mick” Buchanan; 2 sisters, Nancy Buchanan and Marilyn “Sis” Snider; and 3 brothers, Jack Buchanan, Frank Buchanan, and Ronnie Buchanan.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Joy Ann Buchanan of Blackshear; 3 sons, Eric (Kim) Buchanan of Blackshear, Aaron (Amanda) Buchanan of Blackshear, and Shawn (Travis) Buchanan of Colorado; daughter-in-law, Amy Buchanan of Hamilton, Ohio; 7 grandchildren, Christopher Buchanan (fiancé Hannah) of Hamilton, Ohio, Caitlyn Buchanan Walsh (husband John) of Blackshear, Erica Buchanan of Pearson, Lindsay Buchanan (Erick Rumpke) of Hamilton, Ohio, Kevin Buchanan (wife Bailey) of Calhoun, GA, Ethan Buchanan (wife Jade) of Waycross, and Kody Buchanan of Blackshear; 6 great grandchildren, Keegan Thompson, Kinsleigh Thompson, Ansley Walsh, Korbin Thompson, Kace Buchanan, and Alivia Walsh; a sister, Debra Krebs of Ohio; 3 brothers, Gary Buchanan of Ohio, Mick Buchanan of Tennessee, and James Dugan of Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A memorial service will take place Monday evening (4/11/22) at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday one hour prior to the service.
