Mr. William Cecil Johnson, age 86, of Patterson, passed away Sunday evening (10/11/20) at his residence following an extended illness.
Born October 6, 1934 in Patterson, he was a son of the late William Owen and Janie Elizabeth Arnette Johnson. He lived most of his life in Pierce County where he was a lifelong farmer but had also worked in construction and had been a truck driver for Thomas Logging. He had a passion for growing cane and hosting his annual cane grinding and was a natural at making cane syrup. He was also a talented “water witch”, easily able to locate underground water and know where to dig a well. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Clyde Aspinwall; a brother-in-law, Lenton Roberson; and a special brother-in-law, Daniel Thomas.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Cheryl Roberson Johnson of Patterson; 2 sisters, Doris Thomas and Betty Roberson, both of Offerman; 3 brothers-in-law, Jerry Roberson (wife Glenda) of Patterson, Rev. Eddie Roberson (wife Vicki) of Vidalia, and Russ Roberson (wife Debbie) of Offerman; a special niece, LeAnna Roberson of Offerman; a special great nephew, Tucker Dykes of Offerman; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
A graveside funeral service will take place Wednesday morning (10/14/20) at 11 a.m. at Offerman Cemetery.
He will lie in state at the cemetery one hour prior to the service.
