Mr. Danny Ray Batten, age 69, of Patterson, passed away Saturday afternoon (10/9/21) at his residence following a short illness.
Born April 5, 1952 in Blackshear, he was a son of the late Edward Daniel “E D” and Kathleen Eason Batten. He lived all of his life in Pierce County and was a 1970 graduate of Blackshear High School. He had worked at the Spatola Shoe Factory, with Larry Altman Well Drilling, and had also owned a gas station while working for CSX Transportation as a gang crew foreman. He retired from CSX in 2005 following 31 years of service.
He was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Blackshear where he had taught Sunday school, had served as the church treasurer and as a bus driver, and in his own words, “did everything but preach”.
He loved spending time in his Bible and praying, spending time with his girls, and always enjoyed a good competition to catch the biggest fish with his brothers-in-law.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Daniel Batten and his 2 brothers, Ricky Batten and Travis Batten.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Helen Vaughn Batten of Patterson; his children, Racheal and Kacie Batten of Waycross and Hannah and Eric Duncan of Brunswick; 3 grandchildren, Trevor Batten of Alma, Jadyn Taylor and Gracie Taylor, both of Waycross; sister-in-law, Geneva Batten of Dixie Union; and several other relatives.
A funeral service will take place Tuesday evening (10/12/21) at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Laura Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m.
