Danny Lamar Chancey, Sr.

Mr. Danny Lamar Chancey, Sr., age 71, of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday morning (3/5/25) at his residence following an extended illness.

Born March 22, 1953, in Fort Benning, Georgia, he was a son of the late Clarence Chancey, Sr. and Hazel Virginia Brown Chancey.  He lived most of his life in Pierce County and was a veteran, having served in the United States Army.  He had been a longtime truck driver, working many years for Thom’s Transport and was of the Baptist faith.

He enjoyed fishing and attending area dances with his brother, Riley, with whom he shared a special bond.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Rose Varnadore Chancey; a son, Jason Chancey; a grandson, Jamie Galloway; and a brother, Clarence Chancey, Jr.

Survivors include a son, Danny Lamar “Toby” Chancey, Jr. of Savannah; 5 grandchildren, Nicholas Chancey (Lauren), Lana Chancey, Courtney Harris, and Ashley, Jones, all of Waycross, and Gunter Chancey of Maryland; 5 great grandchildren, Sawyer Sills, Karsyn Dodd, Neveah Johnson, Levi Norman, and Brayden; 9 siblings, Riley Chancey, Karl Chancey (wife Tonya), and Timmy Chancey, all of Blackshear, Susan Cardwell of Waycross, Carol Ann Chancey of Hinesville, Virginia Ann Chancey of Florida, Karen Walker of Alma, Kevin Cobb of Savannah, and Betty Ann Ternest of Atlanta; special friend, Pat Bell of Blackshear; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday afternoon (3/8/25) at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Waters Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
