Dean Hershel Hendrix, Jr.

Mr. Dean Hershel Hendrix, Jr., age 82, of Blackshear, passed away early Wednesday morning (2/19/2025) at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House following an extended illness.

Born December 20, 1942, in Waycross, Georgia, he was a son of the late Dean Hershel Hendrix, Sr. and Willine Harris Hendrix.  Having grown up in Waycross, he graduated from Ware County High School and then joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Texas and Illinois. He then moved to Conyers, GA and worked many years as a phone technician with BellSouth before retiring and moving to Pierce County in 2004.

He was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Conyers but attended Hacklebarney Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Maxine Lloyd Hendrix; 2 brothers and a sister-in-law, Rev. Frank Hendrix and William (Susan) Hendrix; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty (Paul) Smith; and a brother-in-law, Donald Trull.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Heather Hendrix and Gene White of Eatonton, GA; 2 grandchildren, Brandon White (wife Abby) of Statham, GA and Madi Smith (husband Kody) of Colbert, GA; 2 great grandchildren, Levi White and Lily Smith; sister, Dot Trull of Blackshear; sister-in-law, Pamela Hendrix of Dry Branch, GA; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will take place Saturday (2/22/24) at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Kettle Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
