Deloris Welch Obituary

Sister Deloris Jacobs Welch, age 86, of Blackshear, transitioned to Heaven Saturday evening (8/13/22) at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House following a short illness.

Born May 10, 1936, in Pierce County, she was the second of 6 children of the late Eddie Willie and Dora Kate Barnes Jacobs.  She lived all her life in Blackshear, was the Valedictorian of the Lee Street High School Class of 1953, and attended Savannah State College.  She was a longtime housewife and a weekly columnist for The Blackshear Times. Her column, Dee’s Corner, was a joy she looked forward to each week.

Joining Zion Missionary Baptist Church at a very young age, she remained active and dutiful to the tasks she was called to do, all while loving her church and church family.  She had served as the Vice President for Missions, Chairwoman of the Welcome Committee, Church Reporter, Chairwoman for Pastor’s Appreciation, and faithfully attended Sunday School, Bible Study, and church services.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dolphus Welch; 2 sons, Thomas “Tony” Williams and Ellis Gregory Jacobs; a granddaughter, Cheyenne Jacobs; and 4 brothers, James M. Jacobs, Curtis M. Jacobs, Oscar B. Jacobs, and William C. Jacobs.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Marion Dale Jacobs of Blackshear; one daughter, Alexis Moore of Blackshear; a granddaughter, Bridgette Myers of Blackshear; 4 great grandchildren, Jayda Jacobs, Lauren Mitchell, Lariah Jacobs, Landon Jacobs; her sister, Katherine Jacobs Rogers of Blackshear; special nieces, Katrina Rogers, Monica Rogers, and Eboni Rogers, all of Blackshear; daughter-in-law, Debra Jacobs of Blackshear; a bonus daughter, Toni Trody (Myra) of Stone Mountain, GA; a sister-in-law, Faye Jacobs of Blackshear; an aunt, Francis Jacobs of Blackshear; step-children, Myra Miller, Mike (Pastor Cynthia) Welch, Dolphus Welch Jr. (Pastor Jackie), Wallace (Jean) Welch, Margie Taylor, all of Blackshear; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will take place Saturday (8/20/22) at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening (8/19/22) from 5-7 p.m.

The family will be receiving friends during the week at Sis. Welch's residence, 900 Ware Street, Apt. 1, Blackshear, GA 31516.
