Mr. Earl Monroe Lovell, age 79, of Blackshear, passed away early Sunday morning (6/6/21) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following an extended illness.
Born August 8, 1941 in Blackshear, he was a son of the late George Washington and Thelma Courson Lovell. Living most of his life in Pierce County, he was a 1959 graduate of Blackshear High School. He had worked as a supervisor at Claussen Bakery in Savannah, Winn Dixie in Savannah, and at Big Star in Waycross. He then went to work at Wall’s IGA in Blackshear where he was the manager of the meat department having worked there for 38 years.
He was a faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, formerly served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board, attended the Senior Adult Sunday School Class in which he was the former teacher, and had served on the Building Committee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Danny Earl Lovell; 2 brothers, Roy Lovell and Dennie Lovell; and an infant sister.
Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Mattie Roselyn Durrance Lovell of Blackshear; daughter, Myrtice Lorraine “Lorrie” Lovell of Blackshear; 2 sons, Andy Monroe Lovell (wife Amanda) and Randy Glen Lovell (wife Deanne), both of Patterson; grandchildren, Mindy Eunice (husband Cecil), Early Taylor, Jessica Combee (husband Devlin), Kristian Aultman, Willie Aultman, Cayden Lovell, Andee Lovell, and Sadee Lovell; great grandchildren, Mattie, Cole, Mavery, and Mykah Eunice and Madison Combee; two foster daughters he truly loved, Jean and Mary; sister, Yvonne Murphy of Blackshear; 2 brothers, Ronnie Lovell of Blackshear and Mitchell Lovell (wife Gloria) of Sylvester; sisters-in-law, Lee Carroll of Summerville, SC, Judy Durrance of Waycross, Juanita Durrance of Roberta, GA, and Marie Durrance of Blackshear; brothers-in-law, Aaron “Cotton” and Glenda Durrance of Blackshear and Glynn and Carolyn Durrance of Wetumpka, AL; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will take place Tuesday afternoon (6/8/21) at 5 p.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
The family requests the Shady Grove Baptist Church Sr. Adult Sunday School Class and all employees of Wall’s IGA to serve as honorary pallbearers. Please be at the funeral home by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
