Mrs. Edna Janice Ratcliffe Campbell, age 93, of Waycross (formerly of Blackshear) passed away early Monday morning (7/31/23) at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House following an extended illness.
Born August 12, 1929, in Wise, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Opal Ellen Peters Ratcliffe. She and her husband lived in several states before music and friends led them to the Waycross and Blackshear area more than 40 years ago. She had worked as an inspector with the Coca Cola Bottling Company and had been a longtime housewife. She was of the Church of God of Prophecy faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James Alex Campbell, Sr.; a son, Ronald L. Ratcliffe; and a brother, Fred Steven Ratcliffe.
Survivors include her 3 children, Rebecca Herrin (husband Billy Ray) of Waycross, James Alex “Jimmy” Campbell, Jr. (wife Jerita) of Waresboro, and Debra Thornton (husband Darren) of Mershon; 7 grandchildren, Selena Sweatt (husband Chris) of South Riding, VA, Jennifer Nolen (husband Jamie) of Blackshear, Jesse Herrin (wife Ellita) of Waycross, Stacy Harris (husband Jason) of Blackshear, Ashley Bush (husband Travis) of Atlanta, Barbi Jan Michtak (husband Frank) of Waresboro, and Bobby Campbell of Waycross; several great grandchildren; sister, Freda Ellen Ratcliffe of Pearisburg, VA; her beloved cat, Baby; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
