*Due to concerns surrounding Covid-19, the family has decided to postpone the memorial service planned for Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints until a later date.
Mr. Elbert Glynn Payne, age 69, of Blackshear, passed away Saturday evening (7/18/20) at his residence surrounded by a family that loved him dearly and unconditionally.
Born September 2, 1950 in Screven, Georgia, he was a son of the late Harry and Mary Lee Dean Payne. He lived all of his life in Pierce County and was a graduate of Patterson High School. He was retired as a lead operator with Rayonier Advanced Materials in Jesup, Georgia.
Following retirement, he enjoyed being a sports car enthusiast. He especially loved his 2009 Mustang Saleen. He was a devoted husband, loving father and an absolutely adored Papa. Above everything, he absolutely cherished being a loving, full time Papa to his grandchildren. He will always be the most committed fan to the Pierce County Bears Recreation and travel baseball teams from 2009 until 2015 where he never missed a game no matter what time or where it was played.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Waycross.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nikki Payne and a sister, Harriett Payne.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Sherlyn Walker Payne of Blackshear; 3 children, Lisa Lee (husband Cameron) of Mershon, Brantley Crews (wife Jessica) of Waycross, and Rein Hall (husband Rev. Mitch) of Blackshear; 6 grandchildren, Logan Lee of Blackshear, Morgan Lee of Mershon, Lauren Lee (fiancé Grant Gilliard) of Alma, Christopher Riggins of Blackshear, Bryce Crews of Patterson, and Easton Hall of Blackshear; 3 great grandchildren, Ava Bryson and Hayger Bryson, both of Mershon and Kash Gilliard of Alma; 2 brothers, Donald Payne (wife Carol) and Harold Payne (wife Debbie), both of Blackshear; his two faithful companions, Stryker and Levi; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service will take place at a later date. A private burial will take place on Saturday (7/25/20).
