Mr. Gaines Lewis Lee, age 75, of Hoboken, passed away Sunday morning (9/19/21) at his residence following a short illness.
Born July 2, 1946 in Brantley County, he was a son of the late John Adam and Maysie Craven Lee. He lived all of his life in Brantley County and was a graduate of Hoboken High School. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was retired as a pipefitter from CSX Transportation.
He enjoyed hunting deer and rattlesnakes, welding, and was known as the “Toyota Man”.
He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where he was an Outreach Teacher and had also been a lay speaker for several occasions.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Chris Lee; a sister, Barbara Ann McDonald; and a brother, Wesley Lee.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Shirlon Smith Lee of Hoboken; 2 sons, Tony Howard (wife Maria) of Blackshear and Eric Lee of Hoboken; 2 daughters-in-law, Wendy Lee of Hoboken and Missy Thomas of Blackshear; 4 grandchildren, Tony Howard (wife Kyley) of Bluffton, S.C., Brett Howard of Waycross, Garrett Lee of Hoboken, and Lauren Lee of Blackshear; 1 great granddaughter, Zoey Howard of Bluffton, S.C.; his siblings, Alice Jean French (husband Curtis) of Tallahassee, Johnny Lee (wife Wanda) of Woodbine, Frank Lee of Dublin, and Deborah Gibson of Hoboken; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will take place Wednesday morning (9/22/21) at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Randall Gunter and Rev. Trey Keene officiating. Burial will follow in the High Bluff Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
