Mrs. Gloria Jean Moore Stokes, age 76, of Blackshear, passed away Thursday evening (4/30/20) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following an extended illness.
Born November 8, 1943 in Albertville, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Arnold Stafford and Jeanette Mooneyham Moore. She had lived in Waycross for about 15 years before moving to Pierce County in 1990. She worked for 18 years as a waitress for Holiday Inn in Waycross, retiring in 1999.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Arthur Stokes; a step son, Cleve Stokes; a grandson, Joshua Stokes; 2 sisters, Mary Lynn Sharpe and Janice Bell; and 2 brothers, Kenny Moore and Bobby Moore.
Survivors include her 4 children, Keith Shiver of Nicholls, GA, Kevin Roberts of Middleburg, FL, George Stokes of Blackshear, GA, and Heather Stephens of Box Springs, GA; 3 step-children, Terri Grant (husband Sandy) of Middleburg, FL, Aletha Montefalcon of Orange Park, FL, and Steve Stokes of Orange Park, FL; 7 grandchildren, Shealy Smith of Millwood, Adrianna Stokes and Vallory Stokes, both of Blackshear, Caleb Stokes and Corey Stokes, both of Brunswick, Austin Stephens and Dawson Stephens, both of Mauk, GA; 3 sisters, Wanda Dawson, Betty Armstrong, and Elaine Johnson, all of Green Cove Springs, FL; 3 brothers, Larry Moore (wife Sherry) of St. Augustine, FL, Jerry Moore of Starke, FL, and Ricky Moore of Green Cove Springs, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A graveside funeral service will take place on Saturday (5/2/20) at 2 p.m. at Moore Cemetery in Bickley, GA.
