Grover Snider Obituary

Mr. Grover Albert Snider, age 83, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday morning (3/24/20) at Memorial Hospital Jacksonville following a short illness of cardiac complications.

Born September 5, 1936 in Chester, TX, he was a son of the late Arthur Asberry and Lillie Pearl Swindell Snider.  He lived many years in Houston, TX before moving to Pierce County in 1994.  He had worked many years as a self- employed carpenter and painter, and was pretty much a Mr. Fix-It. He had also worked locally at True Value and Farmer’s and Builders.  He had most recently worked at Lakeview Golf Course.

He was a talented guitarist. In his younger years, he had played alongside Larry Gatlin of The Gatlin Brothers Band and Rodney Crowell.

He was a faithful and active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Blackshear where he also enjoyed attending Sunday school and the Saints of Joy events.

He was a father of his own 5 children, but was a father figure to many others. He lived with an open house policy, always welcoming anyone who needed a place to stay.  He enjoyed spending times with his family, and was the one they all relied on to fix their problems.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Ethel Lowe, Amanda Small, Molly Dorrell, and 3 brothers, Jessie B. Snider, Elmer Snider and Alpo Snider.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mandy Durrance Snider of Blackshear; his children, Gary Snider of Shelton, Washington, Bobby Snider of Billings, Montana, Tammy Malcolm of Billings, Montana, Tonya Snider Chancey (husband Karl) of Blackshear, and Michelle Thomas (husband Kevin) of Bickley; grandchildren, Cody Simmons (Brittney) of Blackshear, Ty Thomas (Taylor), Tuff Thomas, and Tater Thomas of Bickley, Kendra Erven (Jimmy) of Ridgecrest, California, Joyce Posekany (Joe) of Coos Bay, Oregon, Andy Snider of Alabama, Maria Urriza  of Houston, TX; multiple great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; 1 brother, Herman Snider of Pasadena, TX; and many special nieces, nephews, and other relatives that he loved very much.

A private graveside service will take place on Friday (3/27/20) at Shady Grove Cemetery.

A first ever “drive by” visitation will take place on Thursday evening from 4-6 pm at the home of Mr. Al and Mrs. Mandy Snider, 4032 Alvin Walker Road, Blackshear. The family will be outside of their home should anyone wish to drive through their circular driveway to see them.
