Mr. Harley “Buck” Davis, Jr., age 87, of Patterson, passed away early Thursday morning (1/14/21) at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House following an extended illness.
Born March 15, 1933 in Pearson, Georgia, he was a son of the late Harley Davis, Sr. and Rose Lee Vickers Davis. He grew up in Pearson, graduated from Atkinson County High School, and attended South Georgia State College in Douglas, obtaining a degree in Agriculture. He was a lifelong farmer.
He was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Patterson and attended the Senior Adult Sunday School. He had donated the land that the church was built on and contributed to the church and the Lord in any way he possibly could.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dodgerie Tanner Davis; his grandson, Brandon Davis; and his two brothers, Thomas Davis and Melvin Davis.
Survivors include his two daughters, Millie Davis of Patterson and Amy Pope (husband Jonathan) of Blackshear; 3 grandchildren, Jonathan Pope, Jason Pope (wife Nicole), and Kelly Thrift (husband Alvin), all of Blackshear; 4 great grandchildren, Ethan and Peyton Pope and Ila Kate and Beckham Thrift; sisters, Margaret Grantham (husband Jimmy) of Willacoochee, Devote Mizell of Waycross, Sim Gillis (husband Edward) of Douglas, Cavelle Solvang of Douglas, and Rose Mary Oliff of Aiken, S.C.; sisters-in-law, Maxine Hamilton of Lakeland, GA, Patsy Carter of Kirkland, GA, and Myrtle Davis of Pearson; his caregivers, John and Beth Adkins of Patterson; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and church family that he deeply cared for.
A graveside funeral service will take place Saturday afternoon (1/16/21) at 3 p.m. at Sweetwater Cemetery in Pearson, Georgia with Rev. I.B. Boyette officiating.
