Helen (Thornton) Lee

Mrs. Helen Thornton Lee, age 86, of Bristol, passed away Sunday evening (12/3/23) at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House following an extended illness.

Born May 20, 1937, in Appling County, she was a daughter of the late Tommie and Alma Milikin Thorton. She lived most of her life in Pierce and Ware Counties and was a 1955 graduate of Patterson High School. She had served Women’s Army Corp (WAC) of the United States Army and was a retired telephone operator for BellSouth and AT&T. She was a member of Bristol Baptist Church where she had been a volunteer for Vacation Bible School, served in the nursery, and kitchen ministries.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. Lee; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernard (Willie Mae) Thornton, Robert Thornton, Bill (Eleanor) Thornton, and James (Martha) Thornton.

Survivors include her three children, William Scott Lee (wife Mary) of Patterson, Lori Ann Wanzo (husband Darian) of Jacksonville, FL, and Johnny Allison Lee (wife Dianne) of Eustace, TX; 7 grandchildren, Josh Lee (wife Erin) of Clyo, GA, Ashley Lee Davis (husband Kyle) of Macon, GA, Daniel Wanzo and Scarlett Lantz (husband Cody), both of Jacksonville, Lacey Woods (husband Michael) of Gun Barrell City, TX, Daniell Howell of Eustace, TX, and Allison Lee, Jr. (wife Erica) of Mabank, TX; 6 great grandchildren, Landon Edwards, Grayson Lee, Ward Davis, Cody Woods, Jayden Byars, and Ella Lee; sister, Hazel Bowen (husband Sonny) of Dublin; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday (12/9/23) at 11 a.m. at Bristol Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
