Mr. Horace (Pete) Thomas, age 77, of Waycross, passed away early Wednesday morning (7/27/22) at the Harborview Health Systems Pierce County following an extended illness.
Born January 21, 1945, in Screven, Georgia, he was a son of the late Willie & Julie Henderson Thomas. He lived most of his life in Pierce County and enjoyed a long career in the logging industry, working as a logger and a master welder. During his dedicated career, he worked for his brothers, Bud and Daniel Thomas, Pierce Timber Company, and Oliver Logging. Following his retirement, he continued to weld as a hobby, crafting anything from log trailers to custom car parts.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends and was a member of the 441 Hunting Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Ganey Thomas; six brothers, David Thomas, William Thomas, John Thomas, Bud Thomas, Bill Thomas, and Daniel Thomas; and a sister, Ethel Guest.
Survivors include his three daughters and sons-n-law, Karen & Tim Austin of Fernandina Beach, FL, Marria & Tim Oliver of Waycross, and Brandi & Dawayne King of Blackshear; "adopted son" Michael Winge of Waycross ; 6 grandchildren, Nathan Hendrix, Kandice (John) Mantiply, Jenee (Mark) Harrell, Skyler (Megan) Oliver, Hunter (Ivy) Lane, and Kassi (Kyle) Bowen; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Janie Aspinwall of Blythe Island, and Laura Walker, Sadie Taylor, and Susie (Sam) Cason, all of Offerman; and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas will be held on Saturday (7/30/22) at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the New Home Cemetery.
Visitation for Mr. Thomas will be held Friday (7/29/22) from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
