Mr. Ian Charles Brooks, age 58, of Blackshear, passed late Sunday night (2/5/23) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following a short illness.
Born July 6, 1964, in Saranac Lake, New York, he was a son of the late William Golden and Elizabeth Scott Brooks. He grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico and then joined the United States Air Force in which he served as a K-9 handler. He lived in various places during his military career before settling in Pierce County in the late 1990’s.
He enjoyed being a jokester, spending time with his family, and dressing as one of “Santa’s Helpers” during the Christmas season. He also was a faithful volunteer with Allmon’s All About Animals and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Donald Brooks.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Brooks of Blackshear; 2 sons, Bobby Lewis and Christopher Lewis (wife Marcy), both of Blackshear; 7 grandchildren, Hope Crews of Waycross, Klystette Lovell of Blackshear, Jacob Bennett of Waycross, Wednesday Lewis, Natalie Lewis, and Rebecca Lewis, all of New Orleans, LA, and Christian Cook of Blackshear; 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Jym Golden and Michael Norton (wife Mona Lisa), both of Houston, TX; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service will take place Saturday morning (2/11/23) at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home with Rev. Randall Gunter officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
