Mr. James Marion Melton, age 74, of Hilliard, Florida (formerly of Blackshear) passed away early Thursday morning (1/5/23) at Community Hospice in Fernandina Beach, Florida.
Born November 12, 1947, in Waycross, he was a son of the late E.Z. and Mildred Scott Melton. He lived most of his life in Pierce County and retired from Spatola Shoe Factory. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Letha Todd Melton, his second wife, Jan Young; and 3 brothers, Dennis Melton, Billy Ray Melton, and Eddie Melton.
Survivors include 2 children, Lisa Todd and Tony Todd (wife Imagene), both of Blackshear; 6 grandchildren, Don Wildes of Blackshear, Ashley Wildes (husband Michael Joyner) of Hilliard, Katie Rooks of Waynesvile, Shelly Rooks of Waynesville, Tony Todd, Jr. of Blackshear, and Jessie Sikes (wife Peggy) of Alma; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; 3 God-granddaughters, Amber Burney and Angie Guy, both of Blackshear, and Sarah Mitchell of Waycross; 2 brothers, Jerry Melton (wife Dana) of Waycross and Tommy Melton (wife Donna) of Blackshear; 2 sisters-in-law, Sue Melton and Oveida Melton, both of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will take place Monday morning (1/9/23) at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Blackshear City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening (1/8/23) from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
