Jeffena Johnson Obituary

Jeffena Johnson, age 87, born Lera Jeffena Faye Dixon, passed away January 15, 2021 at The Retreat of Loganville, following an extended illness.

Jeffena was born in Blackshear, GA on December 21, 1933 and enjoyed 17 years on the family farm and attending school. Her family moved to Miami, FL in 1951 where she graduated from Miami High School. After graduation she moved back to Blackshear until she married in September of 1953. Jeffena and her husband J.D. began their life together in Jacksonville FL with a brief move to Augusta, GA while J.D. was in the army from 1954 to 1955. They returned to Jacksonville and remained there for over thirty years working and raising their three children. Jeffena enjoyed being a homemaker and also working as a florist at Grace’s Florist. J.D. and Jeffena moved to Waycross, GA in 1985 where she again worked as a florist at Ed Sapp’s Florist until she retired. Jeffena moved back to Jacksonville in 2015 after the death of her husband J.D. and remained there until 2019 when she moved to Loganville, GA.

In addition to arranging flowers, Jeffena loved to cook. She was happiest when she could make a meal or treat for family and friends. She was always making meals and special dishes to bring to church events, family gatherings or to anyone whose day may be brightened with a little edible love. Jeffena’s recipes will definitely be missed, but not as much as the loving heart and soul that was behind each one.

Jeffena is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John D. Johnson Jr. (J.D.), parents, Jeff and Doris Dixon, and sister, Shelby Dixon Wolfe.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, David and Melanie Simpkins of St. Augustine, FL, son, Drew Johnson of Aiken SC, daughter and son-in-law, Mike and Lisa Clotfelter of Loganville, GA, grandson Grant Simpkins (Tiffany) of St. Augustine, FL, granddaughters, Caroline Simpkins of Tallahassee, FL and Beth Drury of Decatur, GA, sister, Glenda Norman of Sorrento, FL., and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

A graveside funeral service will take place on Saturday (1/23/21) at 11 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.

The family will receive friends on Friday (1/22/21) at the funeral home from 2-3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her honor to Faith In Serving Humanity (F.I.S.H.) in Monroe GA. This organization helps feed the children and needy. https://www.fishofwalton.org/donations
