Mr. Jimmy Julian Cantrell, age 73, of Patterson, passed away early Sunday morning (2/21/21) at his residence following an extended illness.
Born July 22, 1947 in Jesup, Georgia, he was a son of the late Floyd Hugh and Grace Knight Cantrell. He grew up in Patterson and graduated from Patterson High School in 1966. He joined the United States Marines and served in the Vietnam War, retiring as a Sergeant. He lived in Jacksonville, Florida for 26 years where he worked and retired from UPS. He returned home to Patterson in 1991 and was a member of Laura Chapel Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Barbara Smith Cantrell; and his brother and sister-in-law, Floyd Alvin and Cynthia Davis Cantrell.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Herrin Cantrell of Patterson; daughter, Faith Hall of Patterson; grandson, Emmitt Hall of Patterson; nephew, Tony Cantrell (wife Rachel) of Statesboro; niece, Alisha Johns Spivey (husband Todd) of Raybon, GA; 2 great nieces, Michelle and Lily Cantrell of Statesboro; the mother of his daughter, Frances Wright Cantrell of Patterson; and several cousins and other relatives.
A graveside funeral service will take place on Wednesday (2/24/21) at 2 p.m. at Laura Chapel Cemetery with Rev. David Herrin and Rev. Hilton Morgan officiating.
