JoAnn (Hand) Denison

Mrs. JoAnn Hand Denison, age 80, of Patterson, passed away Saturday morning (1/16/21) at her residence following a short illness. 

Born November 23, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan, she was a daughter of the late Judson Colan and Elizabeth Nagy Hand.  She lived in Miami, Florida for several years before moving to Patterson in 1959 and was retired from the Pierce County High School lunchroom.  She was an active member of Patterson Baptist Church and attended the Joy Sunday School Class.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Lillie Caroline Cox; a sister, Betty Harrison; and 4 brothers and 2 sisters-in-law, Wendell Lee Hand, Colan Hand (Dorothy), Walter Frank Hand (JoAnn), and Judson William Hand. 

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, George Claton Denison, Sr. of Patterson; 3 children, Linda Ann Boyette (husband Lamar) of Patterson, George Denison, Jr. (wife Suzanne) of Blackshear, and Priscilla Gares (husband Michael) of Blackshear; 6 grandchildren, Michael Boyette of Patterson, Mitchell Boyette (wife Jordyn) of Odum, Elizabeth Denison Cox (husband Adam) of Blackshear, Lindsey Denison of Blackshear, Clay Denison III of Athens and Erick Gares of Claxton; 4 great grandchildren, Mia Boyette, Hadlee Jane Boyette, Gracie Claire Cox, and Avery Jade Gares; a sister, Mary Margaret Warner (husband Bob) of New Port Richey, FL; a sister-in-law, Betty Hand of Richmond, VA; a brother-in-law Eugene Harrison of Cairo, GA; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. 

A graveside funeral service will take place on Thursday (1/21/21) at 2 p.m. at Patterson Cemetery with Rev. R.C. James officiating.
