Joan Parker Obituary

Joan Parker Hickox, 84, of Blackshear, won her battle against a cruel disease and celebrated her victory in heaven with her Savior Tuesday, November 29, 2022.

She was a daughter of Julia Sapp and Arlington Manor Hickox and both were present at the celebration in heaven. Other relatives who preceded her to heaven and who were at the celebration were her husband, Clarence “Clay” Parker Jr.; her sisters, Julia Faye Paulson and Mary Aline Wilson and her brother, James Edward Hickox. Countless other family members and friends also attended the celebration.

Survivors include her son, Clarence D. Parker III, his wife Paige and their children Ansley, Abby and Clayton; her daughter, Vicki Parker Dixon, her husband Califf, her daughter Kayla Wilson Morris, husband Tyson, and great-granddaughter Sadie; her brothers, Freddie Ronald Hickox, wife Linda, daughter Dawn Hickox Johns, son, Teddy Alan Hickox and Kenneth Danny Hickox, wife Margie and daughter, Amy Hickox Kocher along with Aline Hickox Wilson’s daughters, Patricia Regina and Catherine Phipps, were unable to attend in the Heavenly celebration in person,  but they sent prayers of thanksgiving and praise for Joan through Jesus.

She was a 1955 graduate of Blackshear High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Blackshear for more than 47 years. During her life, primarily spent as a homemaker, she served as a den mother for the cub scouts, room mother numerous times, a leader in the JOY group with her friend Marilyn Waters. She was known for outstanding skills as a cook, seamstress and baker extraordinaire.

Her enduring legacy will be her role as a mother and a wife. She was a prayer warrior and a voracious reader of God’s word. She cheerfully sacrificed and took care of others. She was married to her one true love, Clay Parker, Jr. for 40 years (his passing). She loved her grandchildren and her great-granddaughter, Sadie Morris, was truly the joy of her later years.

One conversation with Joan summarizes her life, “I want all of my family, their families, all of my friends and their families to be with me in Heaven.” “I am not perfect, but Jesus is, and He loves us.” The family of Joan encourages you to seek the Prince of Peace, The Lion of Judah, and the Savior of the World. He loves you and wants you to be part of his family.
