Mrs. Joan Carol Purrington Teglas Duplessis, age 78, of Patterson, passed away Wednesday afternoon (2/9/22) at her residence following a short illness.
Born September 12, 1943 in Jacksonville, Florida, she was a daughter of the late Everett Leon Purrington and Eva Lois Carnegie Fichtel. She had lived many years in Florida before moving to Patterson in 2007. She had worked almost of her life in the newspaper industry, including with The Miami Herald and the Jewish Floridian, a legal newspaper which she purchased and renamed the Floridian. She was currently the office manager for The Blackshear Times, a position she held for almost 14 years, where she was a dedicated and faithful employee
She was a Catholic and had formerly attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waycross. She loved her community and had served on the Patterson City Council, first elected in 2011.
She also loved her animals, especially her dog, “Annie”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Duplessis; her sister, Susan Puthoff; and her brother, Bill Fichtel.
Survivors include her two children, Stephen Teglas (wife Shirley) of Calabasas, CA and Nicole Miller of Sparks, NV; 4 grandchildren, Cole Teglas, Chase Teglas, Ben Miller, and Jack Miller; niece, Angela Flom (husband Eric) of Milton, GA; nephew, Thomas Puthoff of Renton, WA; special friends, Matt Gardner, Jason Deal, Bill Gibbs, K.T. McKee, Cheryl Lutzinger and Ellen Wells; and several other relatives.
A memorial service will take place on Thursday (2/17/22) at 5:30 p.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home with Elder Jason Deal officiating.
