John Crews Obituary

Mr. John Terry Crews, age 70, of Hoboken, passed away Sunday morning (5/28/23) at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born September 29, 1952, in Waycross, he was a son of the late Charlie Elden and Ollie Griffin Crews. He was a lifelong resident of Brantley County, and a 1970 graduate of Brantley County High School. He joined the United States Air Force in 1973 and was an electrician in The Strategic Air Command, stationed in Grand Forks, North Dakota from 1973 to 1977. After serving his country, he returned to the Georgia Department of Transportation and retired as a construction project engineer in 2001.

He enjoyed planting gardens, taking vacations and spending time with all his family. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Crews Shuman; brothers-in-law, Stevie Patten, James Wade Lee, Ronald John Altman and Charles E. Heard; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William Lamar and Lera Helen Bryant Pittman; and nephews, David Dowling, Jessie James Lee, and Christopher Ray Shuman.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Lera Cynthia “Cindy” Pittman Crews; daughter, Candice Crews King (Brandon); son, John Lamar Crews (Stacy); 2 grandchildren, Emily King (fiancé JP Manning) and Sam King; brothers and sisters, Elaine Crews Heard, Katherine Crews Altman, Larry Crews (Evelyn), Emma Ruth Crews Lee, Marilyn Crews Crawford (Gary), Danny Crews (Barbara), Tommy Crews (Diane), Dennis Crews (Annette); brother-In-law Ray Shuman; and many loved and special nieces and nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will take place Wednesday morning (5/31/23) at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Hoboken. Burial will follow in the Mount Calvary Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m.
