Joseph Taylor Obituary

Mr. Joseph Oliver Taylor, age 84, of Patterson, passed away Monday afternoon (1/31/22) at the Bacon County Hospital following an extended illness.

Born July 2, 1937 in Patterson, he was a son of the late James Oliver and Ellie Cauley Taylor.  He lived all of his life in Pierce County and had worked as a pipefitter for many years, often working in North Carolina. He was also a lifelong farmer and owned and operated Taylor Farms, growing blueberries and pecans.

He was a faithful member of Offerman Baptist Church, having taught the Men’s Sunday School class for many years.

He was also a member of the Michigan Blueberry Growers Association (MBG).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Taylor Boyette; and 8 siblings, Eva Mae Strickland (T.), Annie Belle Thornton (Felton), Vernie Mae Boyett (I.W.), Lavern Minchew, Earnie Taylor (Martha), Hubert Taylor (Virginia), Clifford Taylor (Pat), and Kenneth Taylor (Frances).

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Manning Taylor of Patterson; 2 sons, Joey Taylor (wife Susan) and David Taylor (wife Opal), both of Patterson; son-in-law, Robert Boyette of Screven;  5 grandchildren, Josh Taylor (Abigail) of Patterson, April Boyette (Curtis) of Kingsland, Jeff Taylor of Patterson, Jeremy Taylor (Chrissie) of Blackshear, and Emily Graham (Jaren) of Patterson; 11 great grandchildren, Gunner Moore, Jace Riggins, Gage Moore, Madison Head, Reeve Graham, Miley Taylor, Josh Taylor, Jr., Jaylen Graham, Cohen Moore, Jerric Taylor, and Parker Taylor; 2 sisters, Delois Carter of Waycross and Oletha Bryant (husband Lamar) of Patterson; a brother-in-law, Dave Minchew of Yulee, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will take place on Thursday (2/3/22) at 3 p.m. at Offerman Baptist Church with Rev. James Lightsey officiating. Burial will follow in the Laura Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
