Mrs. Sybil Latriece Dowling O’Steen, age 83, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday afternoon (2/1/22) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following an extended illness.
Born January 6, 1939 in Blackshear, she was the oldest daughter of Joseph Lester Dowling, Jr. and Julia Belle Wildes Dowling. She lived all of her life in Pierce County and was a graduate of Blackshear High School. She had worked as a seamstress at several area factories and as a manager for Flash Foods.
She was a member of Youmans Chapel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sons, Brett Strickland and David Lairsey.
Survivors include her husband, Roy O’Steen of Blackshear; 2 children, Rhonda Lairsey Miller of Brunswick and Lindern Lenair O’Steen (wife Barbara) of Augusta; 6 grandchildren, Crystal Miller, Danny Hall, Jr., Blayke O’Steen, Victoria O’Steen, Alex Strickland, Brandon Strickland; a great grandson, Odin Hall; 3 sisters, Patricia Elledge of Newnan, Bonnie Hull (husband Kermit) of Atlanta, and Judy Ramsey (husband Gary) of Denver, CO; brother, Buddy Dowling (wife Libby) of Callahan, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A graveside funeral service will take place on Saturday (2/5/22) at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Cemetery with Elder Daniel Drawdy officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
