Leah Nicole (Hayes) McRae

Mrs. Leah Nicole Hayes McRae, age 41, of Waycross, passed away Sunday (10/6/24) at her residence. 

Born March 8, 1983, in Waycross, she was the daughter of Terry Michael Hayes and Patricia Anne Wood Carter. She lived all her life in Pierce and Ware Counties and was a 2001 graduate of Pierce County High School. She attended Okefenokee Technical College (now Coastal Pines Technical College) to become a CNA but was currently a homemaker. 

She attended Haywood Baptist Church and will be remembered for her sense of humor and good jokes, generous heart, and her green thumb.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ronnie Sharpe Hayes, Pat Cain Hayes, Dewey Wood, and Maudie Lee Wood; her Nanmaw, Louise Arnold Haynes; several aunts and uncles; and a special friend, Marla Davis.

Survivors include her husband, Chris McRae of Waycross; daughters, Jaina Elise Taylor and Maci-Jette Hayes, both of Waycross; mother, Patricia Wood Hayes Carter of Alma; father, Mike Hayes of Blackshear; brothers, Brandon Hayes of Thomasville and Danny Hayes of Blackshear; in-laws, Noahie and Sheryl Altman of Blackshear; sister-in-law, Ashley Andrews Carter (husband Jake) of Blackshear; several aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins, friends and other relatives.

A funeral service will take place Saturday morning (10/12/2024) at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Jordan Cemetery in Ware County.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the service.

The family wishes for all classmates of the Pierce County High School Class of 2001 to serve as honorary pallbearers. Please be at the funeral home by 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
