Mrs. Lena May Cross Ware, age 82, of Moatsville, West Virginia residing with her daughter in Blackshear, passed away Friday morning (1/16/2026) at her residence following an extended illness.
Born February 9, 1943 in Belington, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Taswell Cross and Margaret Bryan Cross. She’d lived in West Virginia most of her life where she was a longtime homemaker before moving to Pierce County in 2024.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Layman Lynn Ware, Sr.; a daughter, Crystal Dawn Ware; a sister, Madeline Wilfong; and her brother, Leon Cross.
Survivors include 4 children, Tammy Ware of Zephyrhills, FL, Layman Ware of Belington, W.V., Tonda Ware of Philippi, WV, and Jody Ware of Blackshear; 6 grandchildren, Rachel Ware, Amanda Ware, Daniel Haller, Isaac Haller, Cecilia Hernandez, and Lyla Hernandez; 2 sisters, Shirley Payne and Barbara Spencer; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorialization is by cremation.
