Lena Faye (Rowland) Tyson

Mrs. Lena Faye Rowland Tyson, age 84, of Blackshear, passed away early Saturday morning (11/26/22) at Satilla Bluffs Senior Care following an extended illness.

Born February 24, 1938, in Jesup, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Henry Howard and Avie Dell Rozier Rowland.  She grew up in Jesup and graduated from Wayne County High School but had lived most of her life in Pierce County.  She had obtained her cosmetology license but had worked many years in clothing retail. She had been the manager for Vogue, The Body Shop, It’s Fashion, and retired from Cato’s. She was of the Baptist faith and had attended Emmanuel Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Harold Rowland, Annette Sellers, Howard Rowland, and Juanell Starrett.

Survivors include her three daughters, Lynne Hayman (husband Johnny) of St. Augustine, Robin Dorsett of Blackshear, and Niki Whitaker (husband Mark), of Winder; 5 grandchildren, Staci Cason Kelly (husband Dan) of St. Augustine, Markel Dorsett Smith (husband Jacob) of Brunswick, Kaili Dorsett Waters (husband David) of Jacksonville, Jena Hayman of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Hannah Cloud of Blackshear; 6 great grandchildren, Taylor Shearer and Collin Kelly of St. Augustine, Jayden and Kylan Smith of Brunswick, Hadaley Waters of Jacksonville, and William “Liam” Perry Barber IV of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will take place Monday (11/28/22) at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Blackshear City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Monday.
