Mr. Linton Wilton Banks, age 90, of Blackshear passed away Wednesday morning (10/1/2025) at Satilla Bluffs Senior Care following an extended illness.
Born September 19, 1935, in Patterson, Georgia, he was a son of the late Marvin Clinton and Sylvia Gertrude Batten Banks. A lifelong resident of Pierce County, Wilton was a graduate of Blackshear High School Class of 1954 and was a veteran, having served in the United States Army, being stationed in Germany. He retired as a stone mason, working more than 50 years with Bailey Monument Company in Waycross.
Wilton had been a longtime member of Rehobeth Baptist Church but was currently a member of Sweat Memorial Baptist Church. He had served as a deacon, a choir member, and taught Sunday School at both churches and attended the Sr. Adult Sunday School Class.
He also was an avid walker and loved tending his grape vines and sharing them with friends and family. In his younger years, he was a deer hunter and spent many weekends dog hunting with his longtime friend, Tommy Hodges in Fargo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Guest Banks; 1 great grandchild, Logan Branson; and his siblings, Thomas Banks, Christine Britt, Pauline Kimbrell, and Latrelle Lewis.
Survivors include his 3 daughters, Cindi Crawford (husband Edwin) of Dixie Union, Donna Melton (husband Tommy) of Blackshear, Karen Carter of Blackshear; 8 grandchildren, Chris O’Neal (wife Nealie), Dustin O’Neal (wife Meg), Jamie Justice (wife Bethany), Kyle Melton (wife Robyn), Brandy Russell (husband Julian), Amber Burney, Ashley Taylor, Kellyn Williams (husband Dustin); 18 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service will take place Saturday afternoon (10/4/2025) at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Young officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
