Lois Marie Everett Drawdy, 83, of Patterson, passed on October 1, 2021 at Hospice Satilla Hospice House after a brief illness.
She was born to the late Fonnie James Everett and Bertha Phelps Everett, July 7, 1938, in Social Circle, Georgia. She graduated from Social Circle High School in 1956. She went on to earn an Associate’s Degree from Young Harris College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Georgia Teachers College. She married Henry Edward Drawdy in 1961, and they shared their lives together in Patterson for 52 years until his passing in 2013.
Lois had a devoted career in education that spanned more than 30 years. She was inducted into an honor sorority for her education accomplishments, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and was a member of the Georgia Retired Educators Association. She served as an English and French teacher at Patterson High School and later at Pierce County Comprehensive High School, where she retired in 1992. During her time teaching, she was known for her dedication to teaching proper grammar and writing and her expectation that all students learn to their highest potential. She actively advocated for students inside and outside the classroom in academic and extracurricular endeavors, encouraging and supporting students to compete in literary competitions, serve as pages at the Capitol, and apply for scholarships and awards that could further support their education and goals. She kept the scorebook at athletic events, served as an academic sponsor for school teams and clubs, and was an avid Pierce County High School sports fan, attending PCHS football games for more than two decades after her retirement.
Lois was baptized with her husband and became a member of Patterson Baptist Church in 1963, where she continued to attend for more than five decades. She was a member of the Joy Sunday School class, and through the years, she taught Sunday School, served on the meals committee, supported youth events, and volunteered to help with varied church ministries.
Lois enjoyed traveling with family and friends on trips to locations both near and far. She was especially fond of traveling with her husband in their RV to her favorite camping destination, Pigeon Forge, TN. In her later years, she looked forward to annual beach trips to St. Augustine Beach, FL with family.
