Mrs. Maggie Lee Dowling Herrin Black, age 93, of Blackshear, passed away Monday morning (9/4/23) at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House following an extended illness.
Born December 5, 1929, in Blackshear, she was a daughter of the late Willie Leon and Mary Maggie Lee Anderson Dowling. She lived in Pierce County all her life and had worked at King Edward Cigar Factory in Waycross, Rubin Brothers Shoe Factory in Blackshear, and as a greeter at Wal-Mart. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Blackshear.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Hiers “Dick” Herrin; her second husband, Havard Black; and 2 brothers, Leon Dowling and David Horace Dowling.
Survivors include 2 sisters, Navadine Callahan and Bonnie Scott, both of Blackshear; a brother and sister-in-law, Tommie and Mary Dowling of Apollo Beach, FL; 2 stepchildren and 3 step grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A graveside funeral service will take place Wednesday morning (9/6/23) at 10 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m.
