Mrs. Marie Joyce Turk, age 94, of Blackshear, passed away Sunday night (2/25/2024) at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House following an extended illness.
Born August 10, 1929, in Homerville, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Alonzo and Pearl Dame Joyce. She grew up in Pierce County, moved to New Jersey in 1946, and upon her husband’s retirement, she returned to Pierce County in the early 1980’s. She was a longtime housewife and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waycross.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, Edward Ernest Turk; a son, Gary Turk; 3 sisters, Mavis Mobley, Vera May Jefford, and Olivia Cason; and 2 brothers, Alonzo Joyce, Jr. and Reaver Joyce.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Eric Turk of Townsend, Montana; a daughter-in-law, Gail Turk of Victoria, British Columbia; 2 grandsons, Michael Turk of California and Joseph Turk of Virginia Beach, VA; 2 great granddaughters, Sophie Turk and Zoey Turk; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Memorialization will be by cremation. Inurnment will take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a future date.
