Mrs. Mary Viomi Lucero Herrin, age 85, of Rome, Georgia (formerly of Blackshear) passed away Thursday afternoon (10/27/2022) at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome following an extended illness.
Born April 14, 1937, in Durango, Colorado, she was a daughter of the late Della Lucero and Benjamin Atencio. She had lived many years in Blackshear before moving to Rome in 2020 and had been a longtime housewife and faithful pastor’s wife. She was a member of The Rock in Rome.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Rev. William Harvey Herrin; her son, Timmy Herrin; a granddaughter, Becky Wright; 2 sons-in-law, Randy Lowry and David Maxwell; and her brothers and sister, Gilbert J. Atencio, Manuel “Mel” Lucero, Alfred Lucero, and Mary (Cande) Lucero.
Survivors include her 3 daughters, Tina Bridges (husband Rev. Greg) of Rome, GA, Kim Maxwell of Blackshear, and Pam Lowry of Rome, GA; a daughter-in-law, Angie Herrin of Blackshear; 6 grandchildren, Ben Bridges (wife Chelsie) of Rome, GA, Racheal Ledesma of Blackshear, Jerry Maxwell of Blackshear, David Maxwell Jr. (wife Rozanna) of Tennessee, Harley Herrin (wife Megan) of Blackshear, and Haeley Sharpe (husband Kevin) of Moultrie; 19 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; 2 brothers-in-law, Winton “Pogie” Herrin (wife Linda) and Lavone Herrin, both of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will take place Tuesday (11/1/22) at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Wayne County.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
