Norene (Smith) Bowen

Mrs. Norene Smith Bowen, age 79, of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday afternoon (5/8/2024) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following an extended illness.

Born May 2, 1945, in Alma, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Marvin Smith and Catherene “Sid” Holland Smith Martin.  She lived all her life in Ware and Pierce Counties and was a 1963 graduate of Waycross High School. She worked for 25 years in the business office of Satilla Regional Medical Center and then she and her husband were the owners of Oak Plaza Restaurant in Blackshear.

She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Mitchell Bowen.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Cheshire of Atlanta; son, Leslie Cheshire of Atlanta; 3 grandchildren, Jay Cheshire of Waycross, Zoe Cheshire of Sparks, GA, and Seth Cheshire of Waycross; 1 sister, Nova Jean Theriault of Waycross; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will take place Saturday morning (5/11/2024) at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home with Elder Jason Deal officiating. Burial will follow in the Waters Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
