Norma Ruth (McCutchen) Johnson

Mrs. Norma Ruth McCutchen Johnson, age 89, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday morning (6/25/2024) at Bayview Nursing Home in Nahunta following an extended illness.

Born April 14, 1935, in Waycross, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late LeGree and Annie Barnard McCutchen. She lived most of her life in Ware and Pierce Counties and was a 1954 graduate of Wacona High School. She was a longtime homemaker and enjoyed sewing, canning, gardening, and cooking good southern food.

She loved her husband, Buster, her family, teaching Sunday school, and helping to organize getting the food for funerals at Brunel Street Church of God.

During her later years, she began battling dementia, but kept her same smile, love, and joy with her family. She entertained them by telling funny stories and tales that made them wonder how she thought of such.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Thomas “Buster” M. Johnson Jr.; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Elton and Connie McCutchen and Everette and Yuriko McCutchen.

Survivors include her two children, Adrian Jeffery Johnson of Callahan, FL and Tammy Johnson Thomas (husband Jeff) of Nahunta; 2 granddaughters, Kristen Thomas (husband John) and Magan Thomas Barnhill (husband George), both of Brunswick; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Eliza, and Gannon Thomas, and Magnolia, Rose, and George Griffin Barnhill; sister, Mary Murray of Waycross, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A graveside service will take place Friday morning (6/28/2024) at 11 a.m. at Waters Cemetery with Rev. Greg Carter officiating.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery 30 minutes prior to the service.

The staff of Bayview Nursing Home will serve as honorary pallbearers.
