Mrs. Rena Gibbs Bowen, age 88, of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday morning (2/9/22) at her daughter's residence following an extended illness.
Born January 22, 1934 in Willacoochee, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late James Eric and Doris Roberts Gibbs. She grew up in Waycross and graduated from Waycross High School. Following marriage, she lived most of her life in Pierce County and was retired from Satilla Regional Medical Center in the Business Department. She was a member of Southgate Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Marcus Bowen, Sr.; a daughter, Jami Bowen Singleton; a son-in-law, Ricky Mattox; a great grandson, Reese Walker; her sister, Mary Lou Cochran; and her brother, Billy Joe Gibbs.
Survivors include her three children, Becki Mattox, Mark Bowen (wife Teresa), and Joli McQuaig (husband Alton), all of Blackshear; 9 grandchildren, Jacob (Nancy) Walker and James Williams, both of Patterson, Miranda (John) Robins, Lauren (Chase) Stewart, Taylor (Roger) Ritchie, Trey McQuaig, Alli McQuaig, and Molli McQuaig, all of Blackshear, and Jack (Yvonne) Williams, IV of San Juan Capistrano, California; 8 great grandchildren, Addison Stewart, Kaley Robins, Emilee Robins, Skylynn Robins, Raylynn Robins, Natalee Walker, Maddie Ritchie, and Tucker Ritchie; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will take place Saturday afternoon (2/12/22) at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Waycross.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
