Mr. James Robert Sullivan, age 79, of Blackshear, passed away Saturday night (10/31/20) at his residence surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness.
Born January 28, 1941 in Jesup, he was a son of the late Roscoe Sullivan and Idell McCall Sullivan Thornton. He lived most of his life in Pierce County and had worked as a mechanic for John King Ford in Waycross and had been a lifelong farmer. He was well known for growing and selling vegetables.
He was a hardworking man, dedicated to providing for his family. His pride was his great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and having fish fries and social gatherings.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robbie Sullivan; step-father, Leo Thornton; two brothers, Willie Sullivan and Dink Sullivan; son-in-law, David Suggs; and a niece, Rhonda Sullivan.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marlene Melton Sullivan of Blackshear; daughter, Lynn Suggs (Buddy) of Blackshear; daughter-in-law, Meshelle Sullivan of Blackshear; grandchildren, Mark Sullivan, Colby Sullivan (Rusty), Kyle Suggs (Micalla), Kaylee Buckins (Timmy) and Ryan Sullivan (Jessica); great grandchildren, Hadley Caviness, Sydnie Sullivan, Caden Sullivan, Braxton Sullivan, Robbie Sullivan and Easton Sullivan; sister, Pat Mansfield (Aubrey) of Odum; 2 brothers, Carroll Sullivan (JoAnn) of Screven and Ed Sullivan of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Laura Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
