Mr. Robert Eugene “Bob” Lee, age 77, of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday morning (4/5/2023) at his residence following an extended illness.
Born October 30, 1945, in Ellaville, Georgia, he was a son of the late Jessie Washington and Annie Battle Lee. He grew up with his family in the Ellaville-Americus area and moved to Waycross in 1969 where he met his bride. Mr. Bob, Miss Gracie, and their sons moved to Pierce County in 1983. He was a longtime employee and supervisor of Dixie Roadbuilders, retiring in 2012. He had served with the United States National Guard and was of the Baptist faith.
Following retirement, Mr. Bob found a love of woodworking. He enjoyed making tables, swings, and other wood furniture for his family and friends. He loved spending time with his wife and piddling on his Volkswagen Bug with his sons. His grandchildren were the highlight of his days, and he loved going to ball games, school and church performances, and anything the kids were involved in. He loved his family to the fullest.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Richard Blankenship, brother and sister-in-law, Lonnie and Sheila Lee, and brother, Dicky Lee.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Gracie Griner Lee of Blackshear; 2 sons, Kevin Eugene Lee of Blackshear and Joey Lee (wife Alle) of Patterson; 7 grandchildren, Kaitlyn Goodin (husband Bailey) of Americus, Austyn Holcombe of Hopeful, Ella Williamson, Chloe Lee, Bentley Lee, Bradley Lee, Logan Kevin Lee, all of Patterson; 1 great grandson expected soon, William Goodin; a sister, Becky Phillips of Ellaville; a brother, Henry Lee (wife Kathleen) of Fayetteville, N.C.; a special niece, Emily Byles of Ohio; a special nephew, A.J. Byles of Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday (4/8/23) at 1 p.m. at Patterson Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
