Mrs. Rosie Lee Altman Marcatos, age 83, of Blackshear, passed away Thursday morning (2/10/22) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities in Waycross following an extended illness.
Born August 1, 1938 in Blackshear, she was a daughter of the late Reggie Elbert Altman and Clattie Fish Altman. She grew up in Blackshear and lived in Jacksonville, Florida and Stockton, Georgia before returning to Pierce County in the 1990’s. She had worked as a seamstress at several sewing factories over the years and also worked for Saft Batteries Plant in Valdosta. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Alan Marcatos, Sr.; her step-mother, Cora Elizabeth Altman; 4 sisters, Lois Stewart, Dollie Joyner, Betty Jean Scoville, and Earline Musgrove; and a brother, Robert Altman.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Spikes of Blackshear; 3 children, Rose Christine Bryant (husband Glenn), Steven Alan Marcatos, Jr. (wife Sylvia), and Allen Custer (wife Kaye), all of Stockton; 11 grandchildren, Steven Alex Marcatos, Christopher Smith, Deanna Dozier, Marie Morgan, Steve Curtis Marcatos, Alisha Ponds, Ashley Wolf, Chanda Marcatos, Brett Marcatos, Dylan Marcatos, and Michael Tomlinson; numerous great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Geraldine Crews of Hoboken, Gertie Hanover (husband Jack) of Scottsmore, FL, and Helen Morgan of Blackshear; 4 brothers, W.R. Altman (wife Alma) of Waycross, Roy Altman of Blackshear, John Altman (wife Sandy) of Jacksonville, FL, and Carl Altman (wife Ruth) of Blackshear; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A graveside funeral service will take place Monday (2/14/22) at 2 p.m. at Blackshear City Cemetery.
