Mr. Roy Daniel Morgan, age 77, of Blackshear, passed away early Saturday morning (10/19/19) at his residence following an extended illness.
Born January 21, 1942 in Gainesville, Florida, he was a son of the late Ernest E. and Geraldine Johnson Morgan. He lived many years in Hampton, Florida before moving to Blackshear in the late 1990s. He was a graduate of Bradford County High School Class of 1960 and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida (UF). He served 10 years in the US Army in the Vietnam War as a Medical Supply Specialist. He was awarded several decorations and medals, but most importantly, he was the recipient of a Purple Heart.
Following his military career, he worked many years as a Mental Health Counselor, retiring from Satilla Mental Health in Waycross. He was also an ordained Independent Baptist Minister and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Blackshear.
He was also a member of the Exchange Club of Waycross, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rebecca Morgan.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Helen Altman Groover Morgan of Blackshear; 5 children, Sandra Osborne of Madison, Wisconsin, Christi Morgan Wilson (husband Curtis) of Middleburg, FL, Lucas Morgan (wife Leah) of Gainesville, FL, Aaron Morgan (wife Rachel) of Waldo, FL, and Paul Morgan (wife Jessica) of Starke, FL; 2 step children, Lillian Hodge Wagner and Ricky Hodge(wife Stacy), both of Blackshear; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Patricia Morgan McGahee of Starke, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A graveside funeral service will take place Tuesday morning (10/22/19) at 11 a.m. at Kingsley Lake Baptist Church Cemetery, 6289 Mary Dot Ln, Starke, Florida 32091.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery one hour prior to the service.
