Mrs. Ruby Lee “Peggy” Milton Kirkland, age 88, of Blackshear, passed away suddenly Wednesday afternoon (6/3/2026) at her residence.
Born July 28, 1937, in Blackshear, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Mitch Milton and Easter McCarthy Milton. Mrs. Kirkland had made Blackshear her home her entire life. Before retirement, she had worked in the sewing factory in Blackshear for many years. She was a long-time member of Blackshear Church of God.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kirkland was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lewis Kirkland; a brother, William “Bill” Milton; and a sister, Ernie Mae Milton Combs.
Survivors include 2 sisters, Ethel Mae Milton Combs of Augusta and Geneve “Vee” Milton Godwin of Atlanta; 5 nephews; 3 nieces; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will take place Saturday (6/6/2026) at 12 p.m. at the Blackshear City Cemetery with Pastor John Williams officiating.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.
