Mrs. Sallie Mae McGarity, age 77, of Fernandina Beach, FL (formerly of Blackshear) died early Monday morning 11/11/19 at Baptist Medical Center Nassau in Fernandina Beach, FL following an extended illness.
Born December 2, 1941 in Blackshear, she was a daughter of the late Estee and Eva Mae Taylor Strickland. She lived most of her life in DeLand, Florida and in Pierce County and was retired from Satilla Regional Medical Center where she had worked in the central supply department. She was a member of the former Victory Baptist Church (now Bethel Baptist Church) in Blackshear.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Eva Acosta; 2 sisters, Norma Jean Batten and Mildred Strickland; and a brother, Marvin Strickland.
Survivors include a daughter, Anita Acosta of Fernandina Beach, FL; 2 grandchildren, Benjamin Sharp of Fernandina Beach, FL and Erika Rae Boller of Oklawaha, FL; a great grandson, Blake Theriault of Oklawaha, FL; 3 sisters, Ann Weaver of Gainesville, GA, Sue Deshotel (husband Jerry) of Tallahassee, FL, and Kaye Buckingham (husband Scott) of DeLand, FL; 3 brothers, Frank Strickland (wife Pat) of Patterson, Joseph L. Strickland (wife Willie) of DeLand, FL, and Johnny Strickland (wife Carolyn) of Sanford, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will take place Friday (11/15/19) at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Cardwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday one hour prior to the service.
