Mrs. Sherlyn Walker Payne, age 67, of Blackshear, passed away early Tuesday morning (4/21/2026) at her residence following a short illness.
Born January 25, 1959, in Waycross, she was a daughter of the late Jacob Dewitt Walker, Sr. and Barbara Ann Brown Walker. Living all of her life in Blackshear, she was a 1977 graduate of Patterson High School. Throughout her life, she worked multiple different jobs dedicated to being everything to help everyone with anything they needed help doing and was the CEO of Doggy Daycare. She also did clothing alterations and was a notary public for many years.
She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Waycross where she had served in various callings and always willing to do anything that was needed or she was asked to do. She was a previous teacher with the Primary Kids Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Glynn Payne; a daughter, Nikki Payne; and a son-in-law, Cameron Lee.
Survivors include 3 children, Lisa Lee of Mershon, Brantley Crews of Blackshear, and Rein Hall (husband Rev. Mitch) of Blackshear; 6 grandchildren, Logan Lee, Morgan Dampier (husband Trevor), Lauren Gilliard (husband Grant), Christopher Riggins (wife Eliza), Bryce Crews (fiancé Laree Hodges), and Easton Hall; 5 great grandchildren, Ava Bryson, Hayger Bryson, Kash Gilliard, Rory Gilliard, and Emry Dampier; sister, Anne Mathis (husband Scott) of Waycross; 3 brothers, Dewitt Walker of Waycross, Kevin Walker (wife Kim) of Patterson, and Harry Walker (wife Rhonda) of Soperton; her two faithful companions, Keeper and Piper; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
A memorial service will take place Friday (4/24/26) at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
